Chief Executive Officer, VMware
Pat Gelsinger has been serving as CEO of VMware since September 2012, nearly doubling the size of the company during his tenure. He brings more than 35 years of technology and leadership experience.
Before joining VMware, Gelsinger led EMC's Information Infrastructure Products business as president and COO. A respected IT industry veteran, he was at Intel for 30 years becoming the company’s first CTO and driving the creation of key industry technologies including USB and Wi-Fi. He led Intel to be the dominant supplier of the microprocessor – while in the significant role as the architect of the original 80486 processor.
Gelsinger earned a master's degree from Stanford University in 1985, his bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University in 1983 (magna cum laude), and an associate's degree from Lincoln Technical Institute in 1979, all in electrical engineering. In 2008, he was named a Fellow of the IEEE and that same year awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from William Jessup University. He holds seven patents in the areas of VLSI design, computer architecture and communications.
Senior Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific and Japan, VMware
Duncan Hewett is the senior vice president and general manager for VMware’s business in Asia Pacific & Japan. In this role, Hewett is responsible for VMware’s sales, business strategy, and services across the region. He is adept in executing go-to-market strategy across a multi-product and multi-cloud platform supporting the digital transformation of enterprises and believes that a customer-centric behavior is critical for an organization’s growth.
Prior to this, Hewett was leading IBM’s Software business for the Asia Pacific region. In his 29 years long career, he has held several senior leadership roles across IBM’s business units, including Enterprise Sales, Acquisition Integration, Subscription & Support, and Sales Operations. Duncan joined IBM’s software business through the acquisition of Lotus where he was the general manager responsible for all sales, marketing and services in Australia/New Zealand.
Hewett graduated from the University of Sydney with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
Senior Vice President and General Manager, Network and Security Business Unit, VMware
Tom Gillis is the SVP/GM of the Network and Security Business Unit at VMware. Tom’s background gives him a keen understanding about the direction of cloud, security and enterprise computing, making him an ideal leader to drive VMware’s networking and security strategy.
Prior to joining VMware, Tom Gillis was CEO of Bracket Computing, a company he founded in December 2011. Gillis started Bracket with a vision to re-imagine enterprise computing. Before starting Bracket, Gillis was VP/GM of the Security Technology Group at Cisco Systems. This Technology Group included the business units responsible for Cisco's entire Network and Content Security product portfolio, including firewalls, IPS, VPN, and email security and web security gateways. Prior to Cisco, Tom was VP of Marketing and part of the founding team of IronPort Systems which was acquired by Cisco in 2007. Before that, he held the position of VP/GM at iBEAM Broadcasting, an Internet startup that went public on NASDAQ. He has also worked at Silicon Graphics, the Boston Consulting Group, and Raytheon Corporation.
Gillis received a BSEE from Tufts, an MSEE from Northwestern, and an MBA from Harvard.
Senior Director, EUC Sales, Asia Pacific and Japan, VMware
David Wakeman is the Senior Director for VMware’s end-user computing (EUC) business for the Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ) region and is based in Singapore. David was an original member of the start-up EUC Business unit in 2008 at VMware growing from a 28-person team to now part of over three and a half thousand staff and the global leader in the market.
David now focuses on supporting business in transforming the user experience for employees by simplifying and securing access to the tools they need to work from any device, across any location. With a background in technology (former Chief Technologist) and business systems as well as an extensive background at VMware across EUC product portfolios, David is in the unique position of advising clients on transformation from a broad domain background. David’s direct team span all Asia, Pacific and Japan markets and have specialty focus on Mobility, Desktop and user access to applications with digital workspaces.
Senior Director, Product Marketing, Cloud Native Apps, VMware
Scott is Senior Director of Marketing for Cloud Native Applications at VMware. He recently joined the company as part of its acquisition of Heptio, a leader in Kubernetes. Scott has spent the majority of his career helping organizations consider how to best traverse their cloud native journey.
